Extremely Frustrating

At the time of writing this review I am to page 45. I have already thrown the book across the room in frustration, ranted multiple times to my friends, and conducted a mini-survey to try to ascertain what region doesn't say the /l/ in calm.
I will admit, I didn't see that I would have much use for this book (I'm having to complete it for an education course), and so my initial attitude in regards to this book was neutral at best. Upon beginning to complete this book, I soon found two typographical errors in relatively quick succession. Unfortunately for the book, the errors were in the answers, and thus, made a great deal of difference. It was after finding the second error that the book made its trip across the room. (For those wondering, when you take the /f/ away from flat it becomes lat, not at, and /l/+/a/+/m/+/p/ does not equal lame).
It went a bit better after that, until I got to page 40, and they started making up rules that aren't consistent across all regions. If it's perfectly acceptable for one to pronounce calm as kam, while I'm also correct in saying kalm, why is there a rule on the subject? This is what led to my mini-survey, as I'd like to know who decided kam was more correct.
Finally, I arrived at page 45 where I was asked to say what the d at the end of "jumped," "clipped," "hoped," and "missed" sounded like. (It's a t, by the way). The lovely answer column told me the d sounded like a z.

Here is my main problem with the errors. If the book is making errors then it becomes useless. If I can't count on the book to teach me correctly, then I will simply continue to do things the way I have been, as I can assume that any discrepancies between myself and the book are due to errors. Worse still is when the book starts trying to teach me things I never ever learned, like when the vowels get hats. If the book makes an error then, I may not even know, and thus will end up learning it incorrectly, and (if I end up teaching lower elementary rather than middle school math) teaching it incorrectly.

Not worth the time or money

I had to buy this book for an education course. It was a real waste of time and effort. There are a lot of mistakes in the book, which can be confusing if you are not familiar with the material. The set-up could be good, but it is just so repetitive and redundant that it really just makes the concepts more difficult to understand. Using just the reviews and the stuff in bold print was sufficient for my tests. I am sure that there are better, simpler books out there to learn phonics.

Nightmare

This book is designed for someone who is working towards becoming a teacher of reading and/or helping students with learning disabilities in the area of reading. It is horrible. The book is riddled with typos and errors which make going through it and performing the exercises very difficult. It gives incorrect answers in many cases. The publisher clearly did not properly review this latest edition. It's likely that the answers or the explanations did not get matched up between the last edition and this one. I am very disappointed.
