About the Author
David L. Russell is Professor of Languages and Literature at Ferris State University and co-editor of The Lion and the Unicorn. In addition to book-length studies of Scott O’Dell and Patricia MacLachlan, he has published numerous scholarly articles on a wide range of subjects in children’s literature.

Good info regarding the relationship between kids and reading

As an education major, I am finding this book breaks down the various aspects of reading to kids vs. reading for adults. Kids view things differently, so choosing books that are age & developmentally appropriate is important.
This would also be a good reference for anyone thinking of writing children's books. They talk about aspects of a story, of illustrations, and why some stories are 'good' why others aren't so much. There is more to this than I thought!

A wonderful book, authoratative and instructive, yet an interesting and thoughtful work about children's literature. The discussion and examples are insightful and intelligent focusing on the genre and important points when teaching the literature. The author brings a scholarly overview and balance to the elements of children's literature.

Absolutely Riveting

I have been impressed with compilations of children's literature before but this book has many insightful analyses of beloved characters, illustrations, and familiar themes. Its a perfect introduction for college students on topic of children's literature. Anyone who disagrees may want to go back and reread.
